Antonio Calligaris starts in 1923 with the manufacture of artisanal chairs made of wood with a straw seat. Until the early 1960s, production remains handcrafted, but then industrialization also continues in this originally traditional market and machines increasingly replace handwork. Everything moves faster and, with increased production, Calligaris captures the leading position in the "chair district" around Udine, a region between Venice and Trieste in northern Italy. The company later moves into the production of complete furniture series with tables, cabinets, beds, lounges and decoration. In addition to wood, the materials of the products become glass, metal, leather and plastic. Meanwhile, the brand is represented worldwide, but the philosophy remains the same: the synergy between traditional craftsmanship and modern Italian design.
